SHAM 2012- A Personal Account of Yuu
After frankly a horrendous trip home, I have returned from London and will now give a full account of SHAM 2012.
After having to wake up at 6am, I left the house a little too late and ended up having to chase a taxi down to get to the train station in time. It was freezing cold, but it wasn’t too bad. Needless to say, running off no sleep and running is a bad idea, but at least I was awake.
Train trip was uneventful, so I’ll skip to the arrival. Met up with my friend and together we went to North Gower St. It was strange, seeing it off set. The street was far smaller than I thought and it was almost hard to believe that I was, in a way, on set. Passing by the supposed 221B, my friend and I went into Speedy’s to have breakfast.
The place, unsurprisingly, was absolutely, tiny. I mean, I expected it to be small, but it was completely packed and there wasn’t even a toilet… The tea was good and the food was cheap. All around the walls, they had pictures of the Sherlock cast and some pictures of filming. Snapped a few pictures of that when I was sipping tea.
Then came the actual meet up and holy hell, there were a lot of us. I mean seriously, there were about 50. A couple of cosplayers too, together we gathered outside Speedy’s and took the group ‘We Believe in Sherlock’ picture together. (Which I’ll reblog affer this.) Saw my lecturer too, that was surprising.
Met the Baker Street Babes in person and good lord, I was a jittery mess. Meeting Marie was so intimidating but they were all lovely women ; u ; It was an honour to have spoken to them.
Went to the pub with the mass of fangirls (and three guys.) Mingled, plugged myself and generally had a good old natter with likely minded people.
Went to the Sherlock Holmes museum and on the notice board were a load of ‘I Believe in Sherlock’ notes. I have never felt so proud of my fandom.
A quick trip to Euston Station’s coffee shop and my friend and I sat with some of the other Sherlockians. I didn’t speak much, mainly sat there and drew = u = ;; But, I did manage to draw a cute John doodle for Marie and in return, she did a sketch of Sherlock for me ; // u // ; After the initial shock, I spent the rest of the time there doodling cute things and making Curly ‘awwww’ every few minutes. Such an honour, seriously.
Then we all gathered to go on the ‘Sherlock Holmes Saves the Nation Walk' in which I learned many things about Holmes. Our tour guide was absolutely lovely and he was genuinely surprised by the sheer amount of people who turned up. He told us he had only been expecting 12 of us, then went on to deduce that we all met up on the internet and many of us were fangirls. He spent the rest of the night making jokes catered for us. <3 A fan there told us about her love of Mycroft and we all had a good, albeit, freezing, time.
The dinner followed afterwards was at Bella Itallia and that involved me writing out a rec list for a fellow Sherlockian and some very passionate talks about fandom and alike.
We then headed for home.
This was only for Saturday, Sunday was a general outing with some of the people from the meet up in which we went to Royal Festival Hall to look at some silly coffins. Nothing as grand as Saturday but fun all the same.
tl;dr? SHAM 2012 was bloody brilliant.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a butt ton of people to follow.
